Di Coneybeare, MD, MHPE, FPD-AEMUS
Current President
Dr. Coneybeare serves as the emergency ultrasound fellowship director at Columbia University Medical Center. She completed her residency at NYU/Bellevue and stayed for her ultrasound fellowship while completing a master’s of health professions education from Maastricht University. Her ultrasound interests remain eclectic and medical education scholarship focuses on professional identity formation in postgraduate populations.

Megan M. Leo, MD
Immediate Past President
Dr. Leo is the Director of Emergency Ultrasound at Boston Medical Center (BMC). She is also a clinical associate professor of emergency medicine at Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine. Dr. Leo has held several national leadership positions including past president of the Academy of Emergency Ultrasound (AEUS), past secretary of the Society of Clinical Ultrasound Fellowships (SCUF), past chair of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) international ultrasound interest group, and has been on the SonoGames organizing committee since 2016. She also has experience in international ultrasound education curriculum development and training in Rwanda and Kenya. Her research interests include point-of-care ultrasound education research and the development of artificial intelligence to aid in point-of-care ultrasound interpretation.

Hamid Shokoohi, MD, MPH
President Elect
Dr. Shokoohi is the Director of Emergency Ultrasound at Massachusetts General Hospital and Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School. A long-time leader in ultrasound education and innovation, he has directed fellowship programs at GWU, MGH, and Harvard/MGB, training over 40 fellows—many now in leadership roles across the country.
Dr. Shokoohi previously served on the SCUF Board of Directors (2021–2023) and played a key role in creating the first integrated fellowship across Mass General Brigham. He has over 180 peer-reviewed publications and has led multi-institutional research efforts focused on POCUS in critical care, procedural applications, and AI integration.
His leadership also extends beyond his institution. He has served as a board member, scientific advisor, and co-chair for WINFOCUS and the European Society of Translational Medicine (EUSTM), and has helped build ultrasound training programs in underserved regions around the world, driven by a strong commitment to equity in medical education and global health.
With a focus on mentorship, innovation, and collaboration, Dr. Shokoohi brings a vision for growing SCUF’s impact through research, inclusion, and a strong community of educators and fellows.
Secretaries

Hani Kuttab, MD
Current Secretary
Dr. Kuttab is ultrasound faculty at the University of Wisconsin Department of Emergency Medicine. He completed residency with the University of Chicago Medical Center, ultrasound fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Department of Emergency Medicine and currently serves as the medical director for the emergency department at East Madison Hospital, as well as assistant director for both clinical ultrasound at East Madison Hospital and medical student ultrasound education.

Mike Secko, MD, FACEP, FAEMUS
Immediate Past Secretary
Dr. Secko is the Division Director of Emergency and Clinical Ultrasound at Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University. He completed ultrasound fellowship at SUNY Downstate/Kings County Hospital. His scholarly interests include everything POCUS, but his keen interest is in cardiac/TEE, MSK, and his international POCUS work in the Windward Islands of the Caribbean.

Carrie Walsh, MD
Secretary Elect
Carrie Walsh was born on the British Island of Jersey in the Channel Islands and trained at the Royal Ballet School (RBS) of London. Following her Graduation from RBS Carrie danced professionally for 12 years with some of the top national ballet companies in Europe, including the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen, as a founding member of Corella Ballet in Madrid, Spain, Ballet de L’Opera de Bordeaux, France, and the Norwegian National Ballet in Oslo, Norway. Carrie graduated Magna Cum Laude in Neuroscience from Columbia University in the City of New York and attended medical school at Thomas Jefferson Medical Collage in Philadelphia. Carrie did her residency at the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and The Brigham and Women’s Hospital and completed her Harvard Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and The Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. Carrie is now Assistant Professor and Core Emergency Ultrasound Faculty at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Carrie has a focus on POCUS Education. She received an EMF Grant and published work on establishing objective competency measures in diagnostic and procedural ultrasound. On a National level, Carrie on the Board of Directors for the Society of Clinical Ultrasound Fellowships (SCUF) for her role as Secretary and the SCUF Social Media and Website Committee. She was the winner of the SAEM AEUS Sonogames 2024 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Mike Gottlieb, MD
Current Treasurer
Dr. Gottlieb is the Vice Chair of Research and Director of the Emergency Ultrasound Division at Rush University Medical Center. He has served as the founding Program Director for the Rush Clinical Ultrasound Fellowship, as well as Past-Chair of the ACEP Ultrasound Section, AAEM Ultrasound Section, CORD Academy for Scholarship, SAEM Education Summit, CORD Education Committee, and CORD Best Practices Subcommittee. He is a nationally-recognized speaker, educator, and researcher. His academic interests include medical education, ultrasound, infectious diseases, heart failure, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Will Kropf, MD, MHPE
Immediate Past Treasurer
Dr. Kropf is an ultrasound faculty member at the University of Michigan, where he is Director for Student Ultrasound Education, APD for the residency program, and Co-Director for the Diagnostics and Therapeutics Branch of the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed a combined fellowship in Clinical Ultrasound and Medical Education at the University of Michigan. His scholarly interests include assessment of learners and POCUS education.

Directors-at-Large

Liang Liu, MD
Dr. E. Liang Liu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Ultrasound Fellowship Director at Emory University. She is a graduate of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and completed emergency medicine residency training and fellowship training at the University of Texas Southwestern/Parkland Health & Hospital System in Dallas, TX. She is fellowship trained in Emergency Disaster and Global Health (EDGH) and Emergency Ultrasound.
Dr. Liu is actively involved in teaching, supervision, and mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellows. Her interests in graduate medical education are particularly focused on ultrasound education, educational innovations, and the development of emergency medicine worldwide. She has been an active member of the ultrasound community since fellowship and look forward to continuing to serve the community from which she has gained so much.

Leland Perice, MD
Dr. Perice is an attending at Brown Health and an assistant professor at the Warren Alpert School of Medicine of Brown University. He is a physician with a background in point-of-care ultrasound, global health, and tech innovation. He is passionate about regional anesthesia and implementing point-of-care ultrasound in ways that enhance bedside care. He has created the regional anesthesia curriculum at Brown Emergency Medicine and runs a national course on the topic for residents at the American College of Emergency Physicians’ annual conference. He has also helped create and implement point-of-care ultrasound protocols in rural Nepal to improve the care given to patients with upper extremity fractures. In addition to his work within the Global Emergency Medicine Division, he currently serves as Ultrasound Faculty and Associate Director of Ultrasound Education within the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Lawrence Haines, MD, MPH
Lawrence Haines is the Director of Emergency Ultrasound at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York and assistant professor of emergency medicine at SUNY Downstate school of medicine.

Stephen Alerhand, MD
Stephen Alerhand MD is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. He serves as Director of the Emergency Ultrasound Division and its Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasonography (AEMUS) Fellowship. Dr. Alerhand completed both his Emergency Medicine residency and Ultrasound Fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He has been bestowed with institutional, regional, and national awards in emergency ultrasound education, including from the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine. In addition to Emergency Medicine, Dr. Alerhand is also board-certified in Critical Care Echocardiography (CCeXAM). He has published 50+ peer-reviewed publications in emergency ultrasound and critical care echocardiography. Nationally, Dr. Alerhand serves as Editor-in-Chief for the PEERcert+ QBank and as Review Course Lecturer for the Focused Practice Designation examination in AEMUS. Previously, he served as Secretary of the ACEP – Emergency Ultrasound Section. Internationally, Dr. Alerhand created and directed the annual Critical Care Ultrasound Workshop for the Israeli Association of Emergency Medicine three times. Given his Spanish language fluency as a first-generation American, he has lectured virtually and in-person to audiences in Mexico, Spain, Peru, Chile, and the Dominican Republic.

Lachlan Driver, MD
Lachlan Driver, MD completed dual degrees in Mathematics and Biology at the University of Chicago and earned his MD with Research Honors from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. He trained in Emergency Medicine at the Harvard-Affiliated program at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, followed by a Clinical Ultrasound Fellowship at Brown University / Rhode Island Hospital.
Dr. Driver’s academic work focuses on point-of-care ultrasound education, procedural competency, and multicenter outcomes research. He is an investigator for the NURVE Block Registry and has led projects on national practice variation in ultrasound-guided nerve blocks. His additional scholarship includes multicenter FAST registry development, cost-effectiveness modeling, and research on emergency care experiences of LGBT+ patients. He is the winner of both the SAEM AEUS SonoGames Competition (2024) and the SimWars National Ultrasound Simulation Competition (2025), as well as the AEUS Resident Research Award (2025).
Emeritus Director

Romolo Gaspari, MD, MPH
Emeritus Director
Dr. Gaspari is a Professor of Emergency Medicine and Executive Vice Chair for Academic and Faculty Development. He started the Ultrasound Program at UMass Memorial Medical Center in 2000 and the Ultrasound Fellowship shortly afterwards. He has been involved in developing bedside ultrasound nationally. He has been active in research for years, with over 1 million in NIH funding and publication of over 50 manuscripts on various topics in ultrasound including renal colic, fluid management, soft tissue infection and cardiac arrest and is the founder and has been principal investigator of REASON, a large 40-site beside ultrasound research collaborative.
