Dr. Sara Damewood
Keynote – Tuesday, Sept. 15
“Adjusting Your Gain: Amplifying Opportunity Without the Noise”
Dr. Sara Damewood is the Vice Chair of Education and Division Chief of Emergency Ultrasound at the University of Wisconsin Department of Emergency Medicine. She has dedicated her career to elevating POCUS education and practice. She played an instrumental role within SCUF laying the groundwork and Co-Chairing SCUF’s Program Requirement Committee that led to the development of the standardization of fellowship training. Dr. Damewood has been instrumental in SCUF conference planning for over half a decade, leading the conference committee planning group and even hosting SCUF22 in Madison. She has received both the SCUF Hidden Figures and Shazam awards. In further service to the SCUF and AEMUS community, she served as the inaugural chair of the Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship Accreditation Council (EUFAC), leading and shaping processes to elevate and strengthen fellowship programs nationwide.

Dr. Carlo Canepa

“Ultrasound at the Edge: From Wilderness to Space”
Carlo Canepa, MD, is a board-certified emergency medicine physician at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. He earned his undergraduate degree from Columbia University and his medical degree from Cornell University. Dr. Canepa completed his emergency medicine residency at New York University, where he served as chief resident. He subsequently pursued fellowships in ultrasound at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, wilderness medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and space medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Canepa has worked, volunteered, and conducted research internationally, including in Chile, Liberia, Nepal, Mongolia, and Saipan. His professional interests span emergency care in austere environments, wilderness medicine, ultrasonography, and human spaceflight. He currently serves as a contractor for VAST, a company developing the world’s first commercial space station.
